Hey, I hope you are having a great day! Well if you’ve reached my site then your probably having a flea problem, yikes!! So what’s the best way to get rid of fleas? I’m going to share what worked for me.

But first…

What Is A Flea?

CDC/Janice Haney Carr

A flea is a small insect that usually resides on animals such as cats, and dogs. Fleas survive by sucking blood from their host. A flea body is flat sideways so it can move through the hairs of their host. An adult flea is about as long as 3mm long and a darkish brown in color that makes it look like it has a black color.

If you walk into a flea-infested area and you see a flea hop onto your feet and legs. That is a tale sign that you have an infestation of fleas. When the fleas are on your animal they are visible by pulling the fur back on your animal taking a good look at what’s in between its fur to see if they are feeding on skin.

Fleas can be a big nuisance and eventually become a big problem if they are not treated and removed off your pet, and from your home. If you discover a flea you should take the proper measures immediately. Just like when it comes to bed bugs or any other insect problem if you don’t do anything to get rid of the problem it can get significantly worse.

How To Get Rid Of Fleas In Home Naturally

So if you have fleas, how do you get rid of them?

I’m going to start off with what I did when I first encountered the fleas…

The very first thing I did was wash my kid’s cats with flea shampoo. In order to attack the flea problem head-on, you must first have treated your pet first. They need to be washed in flea shampoo. When you are done washing your pet, put your pet in a safe place that doesn’t have any fleas. And if you have an infestation your pet needs to be in a safe place. Maybe get someone to babysit your pet until its safe for your pet to return home. Or get flea repellent for your pet.

After you are all done figuring out what you are going to do concerning your pet. You can purchase some flea carpet powder. You will want to get at least 4 to 5 carpet powders depending on how big your house is.

Sprinkle the powder down on all the carpet that’s infested and leave it on your carpet for at least a couple hours or overnight as well. When its time vacuum up all the powder. If you have any hard floors you should vacuum those as well, cause fleas don’t just stay on the carpet. Don’t forget to also vacuum the furniture. Then dispose of the vacuum dirt into a trash bag, sealing it afterward.

The next steps you will need to do is vacuum every day.

The Natural Flea Spray

If you have visited my website before for about getting rid of bed bugs naturally, then you know I use one main natural spray I use. The same natural spray we use for bed bugs is the same spray we will use for fleas. Here is what you will need to make the spray.

  • 1 ounce of organic Neem Oil
  • 1 ounce of Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 ounces of warm water
  • empty 4 oz spray bottle

Take your empty spray bottle, pour your neem into the bottle and then pour your apple cider vinegar into the bottle, followed by your neem oil then you can add one teaspoon of any dish detergent and then filling the bottle with warm water until the bottle is full. After that shake it up. Now you’re ready to start spraying.

Note: The Neem Oil will not kill the fleas on contact, It poisons insects stopping the cycle of feeding and laying eggs, it takes time for them to die.

So again spray every two to three days and constantly vacuuming. Those are the main two important things that will help you rid the fleas. Make sure you empty your vacuum after each time your vacuum and place it in the trash.

Note: They will minimize and eventually die off until there is no more left if you keep repeating the processes above.

Flea Foggers

Flea foggers are great in helping to get rid of the fleas.

So what I did was in the rooms that there still had fleas, is set off a fogger, and I repeated this process for 3 days straight. I got my flea foggers from Amazon for a cheap price and I got five foggers in a box at the time. The foggers I used was hot shot fogger with the odor neutralizer, The foggers lasted me over the 4-day span by having two leftover. Altogether two boxes of foggers with six foggers a piece a total of twelve foggers using two foggers a piece in the same room.

After that whole process of shampooing pet, spraying, vacuuming up flea carpet powder, and using the flea foggers, I’m proud to say my home is flea free

Tip: Steam is also an effective way to get rid of fleas.
